AAUW is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in the United States advocating for women's rights. Founded on November 28, 1881 by 17 female college graduates, AAUW has developed a rich tradition of leadership, scholarship and action. Today AAUW has more than 100,000 members, more than 1300 branches throughout the nation, and more than 500 college and university partners.

AAUW is shaping the social, political and economic environments for women and girls, including the fight for pay equity; and AAUW advocates through legislation for protection of their rights at home, in schools and in the workplace. AAUW researches issues about women in higher education, about sexual harassment, about discrimination and about workplace equity. AAUW researches issues about equality for girls in public schools. AAUW's mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.

 

The Santa Fe Branch was founded in 1933 and currently has about 80 members. Our dues of $77 are apportioned as follows: $49 to the National AAUW, $12 to the New Mexico State Division of AAUW, and $16 to the Santa Fe Branch. Life Member annual dues are $28 (State and Branch). Santa Fe Branch members are simultaneously members of the branch, state, regional (Rocky Mountain Region) and national organization. Members are REQUESTED to pay dues before June 30. The membership year is from July 1 - June 30. Failure to pay dues on time may result in a lapse in mailing from the National AAUW, State and Branch. There is a small fund available in our budget for help with dues
